I know a lot of you
pick up The GigList to keep up with what’s happening on the grass-roots
scene, but I’m sure you’ll bear with me if a take a few lines to point up some
of the major events that are due to happen in and around our fair city this
month. First and foremost, of course,
there’s the visit of Elton John to the Liberty Stadium on Sunday 29th,
where he will be supported by local heroes The Storys. Surprisingly, perhaps, tickets for the gig
appeared to be still available at the time of writing, at the princely sum of
£60.00. Next, for lovers of electronica
and dance music, there’s Escape into the Park at Singleton Park on
Saturday 12th (and, no doubt, into the early hours of Sunday 13th!),
where dance gurus Underworld are headlining. I’m afraid you won’t find me at either, but I
might just find my way down to the Gower Folk Festival at the Gower
Heritage Centre, Parkmill, on Friday to Sunday, 13th to 15th. The Saturday night line-up sounds
particularly attractive, with headliners Witchnotes (described as “a
stunning wall of sound … a combination of Gracenotes and The Witches of
Elswick”), supported by the Sultans of Squeeze, being noted
accordionists John Kirkpatrick (who’s played with everyone from Richard
Thompson to Steeleye Span) and Chris Parkinson.
