http://thegigguide.horlix.com/ en-uk CuteNews http://thegigguide.horlix.com/?subaction=showfull&id=1212526320&archive= Bar Sigma, the student bar on the Kingsway (next-door to the YMCA) is looking for promoters for a monthly Saturday night - contact them via www.barsigma.co.uk.  Sam, the new landlady of The Cricketers assures me that her Sunday Open Mic nights will be starting soon, now that she’s bought a new PA!  Aspers have unveiled their full entertainment programme, but don’t hold your breath - apart from jazz night on Thursdays (at which our old friends The Amigos have a fortnightly residency), it’s all cabaret-style stuff.  Phil Andrew (of The Philanderers) tells me that he’s found Blind Lemon now, so will you all stop asking, please?  And finally, does anybody know where Bentleys actually is?!?!]]> 1212526320 Tue, 03 Jun 2008 20:52:00 +0000 http://thegigguide.horlix.com/?subaction=showfull&id=1212526242&archive= I know a lot of you pick up The GigList to keep up with what’s happening on the grass-roots scene, but I’m sure you’ll bear with me if a take a few lines to point up some of the major events that are due to happen in and around our fair city this month.  First and foremost, of course, there’s the visit of Elton John to the Liberty Stadium on Sunday 29^th, where he will be supported by local heroes The Storys.  Surprisingly, perhaps, tickets for the gig appeared to be still available at the time of writing, at the princely sum of £60.00.  Next, for lovers of electronica and dance music, there’s Escape into the Park at Singleton Park on Saturday 12^th (and, no doubt, into the early hours of Sunday 13^th!), where dance gurus Underworld are headlining.  I’m afraid you won’t find me at either, but I might just find my way down to the Gower Folk Festival at the Gower Heritage Centre, Parkmill, on Friday to Sunday, 13^th to 15^th.  The Saturday night line-up sounds particularly attractive, with headliners Witchnotes (described as “a stunning wall of sound … a combination of Gracenotes and The Witches of Elswick”), supported by the Sultans of Squeeze, being noted accordionists John Kirkpatrick (who’s played with everyone from Richard Thompson to Steeleye Span) and Chris Parkinson.
